Course Description
Team C = General Pediatrics, Nephrology, Pulmonology and Genetics COURSE GOALS: To learn comprehensive management of pediatric inpatients by assuming primary responsibility for their care including the history and physical examination, writing orders and arranging consultation and follow-up care.

Additional Information
You will act as an intern on one of the pediatric teams. You will receive a schedule and more information before you begin from the course director and chief residents.

#1 Professionalism:
Educational Objectives: Consistently place the needs of the patient first and acts as advocate for child and their family.
Method of Evaluation: Direct observation
#2 Patient Care:
Educational Objectives: Obtain and document a patient\'s history in a logical, organized and thorough manner. Perform a complete physical examination on children of different ages with different acute and chronic conditions. Initiate patient orders, understand the rationale for each order and interpret results of initial lab results. Formulate a comprehensiive problem list and differential diagnosis based on the presenting complaint, history and physical exam. Generate thoughtful assessment and plan.
Method of Evaluation: Review of oral and written presentations. Direct observation of history taking and physical examination skills.
#3 Medical Knowledge:
Educational Objectives: Apply pediatric principles to patient care including common pediatric problems and emergencies encountered on the inpatient service.
Method of Evaluation: Presentation of patient care issues to the team
#4 Practice-Based Learning:
Educational Objectives: Apply an evidence based approach to the care of children admitted to the hospital.
Method of Evaluation: Review of presentations on rounds, discussions of patient care
#5 Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
Educational Objectives: Establish rapport with children and families as the primare care giver on the team. Effectively communicate with the team of health care professionals. Consistently demonstrate respect, reliability, helpfulness and initiative while a member of the health care team.
Method of Evaluation: 360 degree evaluations by patients, staff, housestaff and faculty
#6 Systems-Based Practice:
Educational Objectives: Understand the risks, benefits and costs of diagnostic and therapeutics in the individual patient. Coordinate with the team discharge planning.
Method of Evaluation: Review of charts, performance on rounds
